Blood Orange Margarita with Eldeflower Liqueur

Overview

One of my absolute favorite drinks is a margarita. I love tequila, and I love things that are citrusy, bright, and tart.

Here in Massachusetts, we aren’t privy to the beautiful bounty of fresh citrus like you’d see in Florida, California, or other magnificent warm places. However, this time of year, in particular, you can go into any grocery store and you will find an abundance of citrus fruit (blood oranges, navels, cara cara, mandarin, tangerines…I could go on…). This makes me VERY happy! My all time favorite margarita is a blood orange margarita. This fruit is beautiful in color and oh-so- juicy. This, plus the tartness of the limes, makes for a perfect pairing, which led me to experimenting with this drink.

I find eldeflower liquor has an enchanting scent. It’s floral, but not perfume like, and citrusy, but not overly. I’ve used eldeflower liquor in simple cocktails with vodkas, and figured I’d give it a go in a margarita. For this Blood Orange Margarita with Eldeflower, I used St. Germain. A note of caution, I personally find a little goes a long way with this liqueur. As with any liqueur, it’s on the sweeter side, so add slowly and taste as you see fit. As with any of my margarita recipes, you’ll want to use fresh ingredients!
