Air Fried Broccoli Bites

I am a huge fan of broccoli bites and jalapeno poppers when the fam and I get take out. But I typically feel gross the day after eating this type of food, it’s overly salted, deep fried, and while it’s great in a pinch, it’s usually not worth it.

Inspired by takeout food, I crafted these broccoli bites. Chopped broccoli mixed with cheese + turkey bacon + chopped onion are the perfect base to these healthy alternative. These are not the ooey- gooey cheesy take-out broccoli bites they do get the job done! They’re also a pretty good way to attempt to get some veggies into people who may not love them (cough cough, my son).


Air Fried Broccoli Bites

Makes about 27 bites

Shopping List

  • One large head of broccoli, florets only, about 2-3 cups

  • 1 onion, roughly chopped

  • 3 slices turkey bacon, roughly chopped

  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese

  • 3 eggs

  • 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs + extra for rolling the bites in

  • 1/8 cup all purpose flour

  • kosher salt + pepper


Combine the broccoli, onion, and uncooked turkey bacon in a food processor and process until chopped finely. Pour into a bowl and add your eggs, cheese, panko, flour, salt, and pepper and combine thoroughly.

Lay out a piece of parchment and using a cookie scoop, scoop a ball of the mixture (about an 1” wide) onto the paper. Repeat until there is no mixture remaining.

Preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees for about 5 minutes.

Pour some panko break crumbs in a small shallow bowl and roll each ball gently in the panko. Place enough balls in the basket so it’s full but not overcrowded. Spray with nonstick cooking spray. Cook for a total time of 10 minutes, shaking the pan half way through.

Serve with a simple marinara sauce or ranch dressing and enjoy!
